The K-drama World

OH MY VENUS!

The drama that aired in 2016 in Korea was a blockbuster. It had 16 episodes and starred the most beautiful Venus Shin Min-a along with the epitome of manliness, So Ji Sub
The drama explored the life of Kand Joo Eun (min-a) who is overweight and is insecure about her body. She is a lawyer who leads has an unhealthy lifestyle but does not want to change. The story begins when she meets the male lead, Kim Young Ho. Young Ho is the Lee Min Ho (No wonder the manes are similar) of the drama. He is the son of a chairman and is rich but is cold. He is aloof and runs away from his responsibility as a CEO.
There are two other side roles by Sung Hoon and Henry Lau, the best bromance in history. Whenever the mood of the drama falls down these guys just light it up with their dry humor. The second female lead is a villain as usual along with the second male lead who is her partner.

Kang Joo Eun
Not many Korean dramas have a female lead who is not miserable and does not need to be saved by the knight in shining armor. This is the drama where they have given Joo Eun the freedom to be who she is. She is stronger than the male lead when it comes to maturity and decision making. She is persistent throughout the 20 episodes. We watch her fall and get up all on her own. In fact, near the end, she also lifts up Young Ho, who is haunted by his scary and painful past.
Joo Eun is there a perfect example of a modern-day girl. She is mature, smart (She is a lawyer, come on), Strong, Determined, and most importantly very hard working. It is rare to see such a strong character in Asian depiction.

Kim Young Ho
He is everything a person needs. Rich, smart, handsome, super hot, rude, and Tsundere. But he has a past. A very sad and painful one. He is vulnerable but pretends to be strong. He is skeptical of people as he has lost his trust a long time ago. The drama has beautifully portrayed what it feels to be pressured to be someone when you are not. Only for Joo Eun, he breaks apart. The outer shell falls off to reveal his true self. There is no way one cannot fall in love with him.

Second Leads
The second leads of the drama have also done a wonderful job of being evil. At some point, mid drama one can sympathize with them. The female lead is constantly under the pressure of staying beautiful due to her body-shaming past. The male lead is trying to prove that he fell out of love and that it is okay.

The drama has much-hidden meanings reflecting the real world if one watches it closely.

The Drama
The drama was made for Romance and Comedy. Yet they ended up showing more than we asked for. Topics like Peer Pressure, Body Shaming, Unhealthy lifestyle, Stress, False Expectations, Gender Stereotypes, depression, feelings are all subtly pictured in the drama. It is not something one would watch and forget. As the story proceeds and you gradually falling love with the characters, you start seeing the world as a new canvas. A new picture comes to your mind that makes you feel good. You feel light and happy for just who you are. There is very few dramatics that can bring about this effect. And you are lucky to have felt it.

So I strongly recommend this drama to anyone who is looking for a feel-good series. More updates and Unique rating are on my Instagram, please check it out.
I rate the dramas on their uniqueness and the message they bring out.
Stay Safe!

  1. What a fantastic write up of this drama! So Ji Sub oozes sexiness! Sung Hoon is great as a broody fighter and Henry Lau just lifts up whatever droopy, sagging spirit!

Suspicious Partner- K-Drama

The drama aired in May 2017 and had 4o episodes. It was quite big for a normal drama but was worth it. The cast was the well known Hallyu star Ji Chang Wook along with Nam Ji Hyun. Choi Tae Joon and Kwon Nara were the side characters. I FELL FOR THE VILLIAN. No kidding. More than the main leads, the villain's acting was superb. He was the perfect psychopath I had ever seen. This drama is one of the best crime - thriller ever made. (Point of view from an outsider.)   BONG HEE: Let's take a moment to appreciate Nam Ji Hyun's visuals. Her part as Bong Hee is the best one so far. She is so consistent in the drama that it is cute. Also knows Taekwondo. Which is new. It is rare to see girls in kdrama as some athlete persons unless the drama is based on that theme. Her struggles are real as well- being a lawyer charged with murder and stuff. Sometimes one feels pity for her. However, the character in the drama is portrayed as super naΓ―ve and innocent to the point that sometimes sh...

The Lost Art

I was introduced to the world of spirituality and healing after I turned 20. I have always been a firm believer in supernatural beings and the divinity; however, I do not support idol worship. I believe there is a central power responsible for the working of this universe and it can be moulded in any clay with any name and any religion a human desires. The world of spirituality, however, is always confused with that of religion. There is no such relation between the two. One can be spiritual and non-religious. I developed this distinction between them last January when I met with a Brazilian spiritual healer. She explained to me the difference between the two with much ease. She also opened me to the cosmic world and its energies. "The easiest and surest way to tap into the cosmic energy around you is Intuition" she explained. Her way of reading the intuition was through Zen stones and stone charms. She used this intuition to help herself and others who asked for her ad...

An Idea to Believe In

Kunal has always been a restless child. Studying for him was something he never planned on to do. So even after graduating from high school and giving his board examination, he didn't plan on doing engineering. Unlike his elder brother who did engineering got a job in an MNC and is settled abroad with a ransom salary, Kunal was nothing compared to him. At the age of 18, he declared at home that he is quitting his engineering coaching. Engineering and Medical coaching is a trend in a small industrial town like Jamshedpur. With the literacy rate of 99 %, Jamshedpur boasts a high number of students enrolling into medical and engineering colleges. The situation has become so intense that 8 out of 10 students will opt for one of the two. Kunal wasn't interested in the trend, he enrolled for a diploma and said he wanted to do something of his own. So he did. He is one of the local entrepreneurs the city has seen. Even though Jamshedpur is an industrial city and very few entreprene...
